2004 Chevrolet Cavalier : tail light swap out

Details of the vehicle:

2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

4 door

2.2L ecotec engine

4 speed automatic transmission ( 1995-2005 models / Hydramatic 4T40E/electronically-controlled transmission )

NOTE: It is my understanding that this body style was the same from 2003 – 2005 and that the tail lights are exact, as well. Be sure to confirm this on your own though.

The Problem:

The driver side tail light was busted and needed to be replaced.

I did a little searching and checking on a price for one. A new one in the box, was going from 65$ and up, PLUS shipping.

Hmmn.

I did a quick poking around on eBay and found a good used one for $35, shipped to the door.

Yay. Once the part arrived, it was time to swap it out.

You will need:

a cool drink

a 10 mm deep well socket or wrench.

if using the socket, the ratchet part would help too.

I know this is pretty straight forward stuff for most folks that have turned a wrench before, but I thought some of the wrenching rookies might find this handy.

Plus, it always helps the most experienced of us to see some pics of what we are getting into!

I hope this helps a few folks out.

Sorry for the fuzzy photos, but I think you can get the gist of it all.
